From Dandelions to Delight: Embracing the Power of Simple Acts of Kindness
When it comes to selecting gifts for Mother’s Day, I keep it simple. I create a list of the moms and important women in my life whom I want to appreciate, recognize, and thank.
Then there are women who may be going through a difficult time or experiencing loss, those who play a maternal role in my life or my children's lives, and the women who are mamas in the same season of motherhood.
Recently, my son expressed a desire to give a bouquet of dandelions to an elderly woman in our neighborhood. When he handed her the bouquet, she was moved to tears. The dandelions brought back memories of her daughters when they were young, especially since her grandchildren live far away. To her, my son's kind gesture and simple gift meant the world. It reminded her that she’s loved, thought of and cared for.
That day, hugs were shared, and a new friendship was forged with one bouquet.
So, let’s not hold back on how and when we choose to honor, celebrate and acknowledge. I tell my kids to be on the look out to inspire joy. Let’s do that on Mother’s Day and all the days in between.
