Mother's Day: 5 Women to Honor and Acknowledge

Mother’s Day is a day to pause to consider the women in your life. I like to send notes of appreciation and gratitude to not only my mom, but mentors, friends and women who love me like a mother. Make them smile as they walk to their mailbox to find your words on paper just for them.

Here are 5 women to honor and what to write in their cards:

  1. Your Mom/Mother-in-Law:

    • Your unwavering love in all seasons of my life has shaped me into the person I am today. My Rock, My Mom card is here.

    • Thank you for responding to late night calls and texts when things in my life feel upside down. I hope you know how much appreciation I have for you. Find the card here.

    • Being a mom myself, I know now all the messes you’ve cleaned, the late nights you spent rocking (even though you needed sleep), the meals you cooked then cleaned up off the floors and clothes. You’re one of the best out there. This would be a fitting card.

    • Thank you for raising a good-hearted man and for all the ways you help our family grow. Here’s the print-at-home card.

  2. Grandmothers:

    • I could listen to your stories all day. Your love for others is evident in them all. Your Love Changes People card would be most fitting for her.

    • Thank you for all your wisdom and guidance you have shared with me. I know I can come to you safely with my joys and trials. Get this one for her.

  3. Your sisters:

    • Welcome to motherhood! Watching you become a mother has been such a joy. She'll love this one.

    • You are fun and gracious. From potty training drama to reading bedtime stories, I love we are sharing in the same season of life. Grab this card for her.

    • Thank you for loving my kids and being the fun aunt. Your support to me as a mom is the greatest gift. Truly, there’s no one quite like you. This is the card for her.

  4. Mentors/Mothers you Admire:

    • You have been a role model and mentor to me, I have witnessed the fruit of your love and support because you extend it to me. This is the perfect sentiment for her.

    • I hope you know that you have shaped me as the woman and mother I am today. You don’t hold back your wisdom and love and that means the world to me. This is the card.

  5. Friends:

    • The way you respond and serve me when you know I am overwhelmed is the greatest gift. You don’t do it with judgement, but with so much love. I love that about you. This would be the card for her.

    • I see you and the incredible mom you are. You are beautiful and resilient. My favorite sentiment for moms is here.

Now, I now that there’s heartache that feels even heavier on days like Mother’s Day. There are people experiencing brokenness in relationships, loss in motherhood and so much more.

Make sure to send a card to someone experiencing loss. Maybe their mother or child passed away. Acknowledge the pain they must be experiencing and that you are thinking of them. Maybe someone is experiencing infertility. With that, acknowledge that you see them in this challenging and heartbreaking season.

And for those of you with strained relationships with their moms, consider sending a note to them anyway (depending on your specific situation) . You don’t have to solve all the problems, but approach them with kindness and sincerity. Simply write: Happy Mother’s Day. I hope you are filled with joy.” Short and sweet, but still honors them.
