Creating Rhythms and Routines to help Savor Today
We don’t have magical wands to clean up the messes, solve work problems, steady the madness. We do, however, have the ability to create healthy rhythms and routines that can carve out more space in our heads and hearts to experience more of the sweet moments. I was inspired to create some healthy practices when I noticed my mood was short when I didn’t create space or time for me to focus on tasks that needed to be done for myself, home and business.
Lately, I have been putting my phone in another room to charge before I go to bed. That way, I am not tempted to scroll while I nurse my baby in the middle of the night. This has truly changed my perspective to find the joy in being with Cooper in the stillness of the night. It also keeps my my mind and heart at ease because I’m not reading the headlines, instead I am feeling grateful for the time spent with my last baby!
I have deleted Facebook off my phone and placed a timer for Instagram use. This has helped keep track of the amount of time I spend on my phone. I use social media more for work than personal and I think I can justify my time, so I placed a boundary to keep me in check.
I block my time when the kids are napping or playing quietly. Lana from Girl, Teach Me inspired me to do this. She sets a timer for 10 minutes to do laundry, dishes or pick up the house. I have done this with my kids before bed and they think it’s so fun. I have never seen them clean so well until I have set the timer! They love a good mission.
Blocking off time and setting timers keeps me accountable to get done what needs to be done, so I have more undistracted time to be fully present with the people in my life. I love the habit of creating focusing on three tasks a day. I don’t have capacity for much more than that. It’s also helped me get more done too because I’m not trying to do it all which leads to nothing being done well.
Hope outlining those three practices I have established inspire you to find areas in your life that could use some healthy rhythms, routines and boundaries.
with joy,
Aneta
