Celebrating the "Hallmark" Holidays with Intention
I get it. Valentine’s Day - like other “Hallmark” holidays - can feel blah or meaningless or just another reason to make purchases.
For me, holidays like Valentine’s Day is more of a prompt to consider the people in my life. Considering ways to celebrate and love them. In the past, I’ve been surprised with the loveliest self-care gifts and cards on February 14th and not just from my husband, but from my sisters and friends. Their gifts were grand, but they were thoughtful with the intent on celebrating our relationship.
Those small gestures are thoughtful and become investments for a more fulfilling relationships. So, what can you do this February 14th to lift up and love on the people in your life?
Here are some of my ideas:
Write down three people (friends, family, co-workers or neighbors) who maybe have been through some kind of heartache in the recent months. These are people who maybe lost a loved one, recently ended a romantic relationship, etc. Consider sending them a small gift or card filled with reasons you love/admire/appreciate them. Why? Maybe this will be the first year a romantic partner isn’t here for Valentine’s Day. Your gesture will bring joy to a day that may feel heavy.
Send an e-gift card to sisters or close friends for a treat on you! Spoiling them doesn’t have to break the bank. Think about how they’ll feel opening up their email to find something just for them!
Write down three people working so hard this season of life. Send them some self-care gifts. I’ve got some thoughtfully curated gift sets right now beginning at $6! This one , this and these are some of my very favorite.
For the people living with you. Leave notes of affirmation for them to find like their lunch box. I am thinking about having candy and date-night-in mailed to my husband’s work. I haven’t surprised him with a treat at work for a few years. Last time I did this, I had lunch delivered to him.
Remember, it doesn’t have to be grand to mean the world to someone.
